NEW YORK (WLNY) – We’ve heard about the real life horrors faced by the victims of Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro, who held three women captive for nearly a decade in unimaginable conditions.

A new, fictionalized account of abduction and captivity of a young women is now creating a lot of buzz due to Castro’s trial.

First-time author Koethi Zan began writing her novel, “The Never List,” long before the case came to light. She said she shocked when the news of the abductions broke.

“I was stunned when the news broke about the Cleveland kidnappings, and it only became more surreal as the story unfolded,” Zan said. “I’d written a book based on my worst nightmare, and there it was on the screen-real.  And even worse than the story I’d invented. “
