Robert Santiago of Clifton is charged with death by auto and driving while intoxicated.
Police tell The Bergen Record that the crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. Sunday on Rutherford Boulevard. The 47-year-old Clifton woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Santiago, 26, was not hurt in the crash, but authorities say his car was “completely mangled.”
