Authorities: Woman Struck, Killed By Car In West Babylon

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An 83-year-old Lindenhurst woman was struck and killed while crossing the street on Monday afternoon.

Police said Carol Lawrence, 73, of North Lindenhurst made a left turn off of Montauk Highway onto Great East Neck Road in West Babylon shortly before 3:30 p.m. She struck Amelia Couvertier, who was crossing the street at the time, and caused serious injuries, according to authorities.

Couvertier was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she was later pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation. Suffolk County detectives asked anybody who witnessed the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
