NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Hiroki Kuroda says he doesn’t know what his future holds beyond this season.

The New York Yankees pitcher could have a slew of options in free agency, including retirement or a return to Japan.

“At this stage, I can’t imagine what I’m going to do until the season ends,” Kuroda said Tuesday, according to the New York Post.

Kuroda has been a major contributor in his second season with the Yankees, stepping up as the team’s de facto ace amid the struggles of CC Sabathia. The 38-year-old is 11-7 with a 2.33 ERA.

He could have some serious suitors in the offseason. That is, if he decides to stay in MLB.

“My approach has always been if I get an offer from any team, no matter where they’re from, I will take that as seriously as possible and make a decision out of it,” Kuroda told the Post.

Kuroda, who made his MLB debut as a 33-year-old with the Los Angeles Dodgers, said the “mental part” of being a ballplayer will be a major factor in his decision.

The veteran also insisted his signing consecutive one-year deals with the Yankees had nothing to do with potentially wanting to end his career where it started in Japan.

“That has never been the case with what I’ve been thinking,” Kuroda said. “But who knows?”
