Beach Reads: 'The Secrets Of Lost Cats'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - This week's summer Beach Reads title is a bit off the beaten path.

"The Secrets Of Lost Cats: One Woman, Twenty Posters and a New Understanding Of Love" was inspired by author Nancy Davidson's search for her lost cat, Zack.

The author spoke with WCBS 880's Pat Farnack and explained her motivation for writing the book.

Beach Reads: 'The Secrets Of Lost Cats'

ND: It's so bizarre even now, 20 years later. I ended up calling a psychic. I said, "Do you find missing cats?" She took a long drag on a cigarette. "He's alive." And I'm like what? And then she said, "Yes, bushy tail, handsome." And I said that's him, that's him, where is he? And she says, "the boy next door knows.' And I'm like, the boy next door? He's not even home! The family's been away for five days and the cat's been missing for five days.

PF: And did you find Zack?

ND: Yes I did.

PF: After your odyssey with Zack, anyone would start taking a look at these homemade signs posted for lost pets.

ND: I just saw them everywhere. I became very passionate about them. I realized that they were telling a story and we never learn the outcome. A lost cat poster tells the beginning of a story, but what's the ending?
