Woodside, Queens Crash Leaves 2 People Injured

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two people were injured Sunday afternoon when a vehicle slammed into a building in Woodside, Queens.

As 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported, police had conflicting reports about the crash, which happened around 4 p.m. at 37th Avenue and 56th Street in Queens. Some reports said another car hit the vehicle that slammed into the building, while others said the vehicle was speeding and lost control with no other cars involved.

Witnesses said a bicycle cut into traffic, and the driver swerved to avoid the cyclist and proceeded to hit a utility pole and the building.

The elderly driver said he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake, police said.

The man and woman in the vehicle, both in their 70s, were injured and hospitalized. Their injuries were serious, but not life-threatening, police told CBS 2.

Police were still piecing together the details of the crash Sunday night.
