Coples Sidelined Indefinitely, McIntyre Takes His Place

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — New York Jets linebacker Quinton Coples will be sidelined indefinitely with an ankle injury, and coach Rex Ryan says veteran Garrett McIntyre will take his place on the starting defense.

Coples was hurt late in the second quarter of New York's 37-13 win over Jacksonville on Saturday night when he batted down a pass by Chad Henne and suffered what is believed to be a hairline fracture in his right ankle.

The Jets announced Sunday night that Coples, who led the team with 5½ sacks last season as a rookie, was having a "medical procedure" on Tuesday. Ryan would say only that the team hopes Coples is back "sooner than later."

McIntyre, in his third year with the Jets, practiced with the starters Monday.
