Felton Fires Back At Pierce's Declaration

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Brooklyn Nets small forward Paul Pierce has been pounding his chest during the offseason about how the Nets are going to win the hearts of New Yorkers.

New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton responded with a brash declaration of his own.

“They will never take over the city,” Felton said on Sunday. “Because we’ve got ‘New York’ on our chest. They’ve got ‘Brooklyn’ on their chest, and we’ve got ‘New York.’ They’ll never take over the city.

“(Pierce) saying that is just him talking. At the end of the day, it’s all about rivalries. We understand that — he knows that, I know that. He’s just trying to fuel it.”

There has been a buzz of anticipation ahead of the new season in Brooklyn thanks to the Nets landing Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry in draft-day blockbuster deal with the Boston Celtics. Brooklyn has also acquired Andrei Kirilenko to fill out a deep bench.

The Knicks have made splashes of their own by signing Metta World Peace, trading for Andrea Bargnani and signing Beno Udrih.
