Report: Mariners GM Situation Unclear, Seattle President Praises Cashman
SEATTLE (CBSNewYork) — The Seattle Mariners are attempting to clarify the situation of general manager Jack Zduriencik.
Mariners president Chuck Armstrong praised Yankees general manager Brian Cashman during a phone interview with WFAN and CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman.
“I’m a fan of Brian Cashman. We’re both Kentucky guys. He’s an astute baseball man, and I like him very much,” Armstrong told Heyman.
Armstrong admitted to Heyman that the Mariners sought permission to interview Cashman five years ago before hiring Zduriencik.
Both Cashman and Zduriencik’s contracts both expire after the 2014 season. Should Seattle decide a change is necessary, Cashman could again emerge as a hot candidate for the Mariners.
