Report: NBA Ordered Peace Talks Between Prokhorov And Dolan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- According to the New York Post, NBA commissioner David Stern intervened to stamp out bitter tensions that could have exploded into a full-blown feud between Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov and New York Knicks owner James Dolan.

It's not just Nets forward Paul Pierce and Knicks guard Raymond Felton who are taking digs at one another, as Dolan and Prokhorov have been exchanging barbs for some time.

FELTON: NETS WILL NEVER TAKE OVER THIS CITY

"They will never take over the city," Felton said on Sunday. "Because we've got 'New York' on our chest. They've got 'Brooklyn' on their chest, and we've got 'New York.' They'll never take over the city.

The meeting may have temporarily cooled off the feud, as it produced a cordial atmosphere between the owners according to a league official who spoke with the Post.

Prokhorov had recently escalated the beef while introducing Kevin Garnett, Andrei Kirilenko earlier this summer. "He's watching us for the time being," Prokhorov said of Dolan at the Nets' press conference.

The feud between rival owners has intensified the Knicks-Nets rivalry. Tensions may have cooled for now, but it won't be surprising to see Dolan and Prokhorov throwing verbal jabs once the NBA season gets underway in October.
