Man Charged In Connection With Shooting That Wounded Two In Bronx Park

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting that left two wounded at a Bronx park on Friday night.

Alex Tatis, 27, was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon, CBS 2 reported on Saturday.

The shooting took place at Vidalia Park shortly before 6 p.m., where first responders found a 36-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg and a 3-year-old boy with a grazing wound to his arm.

At first some witnesses did not realize that shots had been fired, 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported on Friday.

"We heard three gun shots and we thought it was firecrackers. Then everybody started running and we saw gun smoke so we knew it was gunshots for real", Sabrina Mendez said.

The shooting happened while a basketball tournament was underway at the park.

"They try to do something positive in the community for the children and this is what happens," Elaine Lamb said.

Both victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Vidalia Park is no stranger to violence.

On Jan. 31, 2012 four people were shot inside of the park near East 180th Street and Daly Ave.

Also in 2012 police and an armed teenager were locked in a lengthy standoff when cops came looking for the 15-year-old for questioning in connection with a Fordham shooting.

In 2010 two females, including a teenager, were shot in the park.
