As they gathered outside, somebody said a man with a gun had been spotted nearby, witnesses said. Everyone started running, and some of the nightclub patrons ran across Bruckner Boulevard, according to a witness.

One young woman, Abigail Lino, was struck and killed by a passing vehicle, according to witnesses and authorities. Witnesses said someone called Lino's name, but she did not see a car coming and got plowed over.

The offending vehicle was a sport-utility vehicle headed south on Bruckner Boulevard, police said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Witnesses said Lino was 24 and was the mother of a 3-year-old boy.

"She took care of him, and she worked UPS, and she worked health care – at 24 years old. She played basketball. She was a hardworking person," a friend said.

Lino also cared for her special-needs sister, friends said.

The offending vehicle was described by witnesses as a dark-colored Kia or Hyundai sport-utility vehicle, with severe front-end damage. Witnesses said it was last seen speeding down Bruckner Boulevard.

Police only described the vehicle as a light-colored SUV.

As of Saturday morning, there were no arrests in the incident and the investigation continued, police said.
