Giants Sign Seven Players To Practice Squad

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Giants have signed seven players to their practice squad.

The team announced the signings Sunday, a day after telling the players they had not made the 53-man roster for the season opener at Dallas.

Defensive ends Adewale Ojomo and Matt Broha; offensive linemen Stephen Goodin and Eric Herman; receivers Marcus Harris and Julian Talley and cornerback Charles James were signed. The team can sign one more player.

Ojomo was on the Giants' roster for the entire 2012 season, playing in one game. Broha spent last season on the practice squad, while Goodin spent roughly six weeks on it.

Herman was a seventh-round draft choice this year.

Harris was signed as a free agent on Aug. 12. Talley was in the Giants camp last season and re-signed in July. James was signed as a rookie free agent in May.

The minor surprise Saturday was terminating the contract of David Carr, who had been Eli Manning's backup for four of the past five seasons. Curtis Painter, who was out of football last season, is the new backup as the Giants kept three quarterbacks, with fourth-round draft pick Ryan Nassib being the third.
