ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – A welcoming ceremony will be held Tuesday in Atlantic City for the newest Miss America contestants.

The pageant is returning to the New Jersey seaside resort, where it was founded 93 years ago, after a six-year stint in Las Vegas.

The 53 contestants — one from each state, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands — will gather across from Boardwalk Hall for the welcoming ceremony Tuesday afternoon.

The competition will end with the crowning of the next Miss America on Sept. 15.
