Report: Mark Sanchez Expected To Miss At Least First 2 Weeks

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It could be awhile until we see Mark Sanchez again.

The Jets quarterback has been ruled out for Sunday's opener against Tampa Bay and is also expected to miss Week 2 at the very least, according to the New York Post.

Sanchez injured his throwing shoulder last month after being inserted late in a preseason game against the New York Giants. He's listed as day-to-day.

"I'm not going to get into the rehab process," Sanchez said Monday. "Just know that it's getting better every day."

Sanchez hasn't thrown yet due to "a fear he could do further damage to the shoulder and possibly miss the rest of the season," the Post reported.

Rookie Geno Smith will get the starting nod for Week 1 against the Buccaneers.

"If my chance is Sunday, I'm going to go out there with the intent to lead my team to victory and that's just the way it is," Smith said.

The Jets made an insurance move on Monday when they signed veteran quarterback Brady Quinn.
