Girl, 8, Says She Was Sexually Assaulted By 13-Year-Old Boy At Harlem Library

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An alleged sexual assault involving children at a Harlem library is under investigation.

An 8-year-old girl said she was sexually assaulted by a 13-year-old boy inside a bathroom at Countee Cullen Branch of the New York Public Library in Harlem, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.

The alleged attack happened just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The girl was at the library with her older brother and babysitter, but got separated from them and somehow ended up with the 13-year-old boy, D'Auria reported.

The teenager, who the girl knew, took her into the unisex bathroom where he allegedly raped her, D'Auria reported.

The girl did not tell her mother what happened until later Thursday evening.

The boy is in police custody. So far, no charges have been filed.

The library is closed. Detectives and police officers are on scene.
