NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Tampa Bay Buccaneers star cornerback Darrelle Revis invades MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
The Bucs acquired Revis from the Jets in April for a 2013 first-round pick and a 2014 fourth-round conditional pick, which can become a third-rounder.
Revis suffered a season-ending torn ACL last year, and one member of the Jets is looking to test Revis’ rehabbed knee. Should he be given the opportunity, wide receiver Stephen Hill is eager to line up against Revis, though head coach Rex Ryan has indicated the Jets will stay far, far away from Revis Island.
“I wouldn’t mind going after him. Why not?” Hill said, according to Newsday. “But (Ryan is) the head man, so if that’s what he wants, we’re going to do what he wants. But I wouldn’t mind. I’m not going to back down from competition.”
Hill doesn’t care whether Revis is 100 percent or not. He expects the cornerback to bring his best game when he takes the field.
“I can care less if he’s 100 percent,” Hill said. “If he’s going to be out there, we’re going to go 100 percent, so I hope he does also.”
Meanwhile, Revis has told reporters that he has been giving Tampa Bay coaches and his new teammates rundown on the Jets playbook ahead of Sunday’s clash.
It will be a difficult first game for Jets quarterback Geno Smith, who will make his regular season debut against Revis on Sunday. He will be immediately thrown into the fire against one of the league’s standout cornerbacks.
The Jets will be looking to get the better of their former teammate when the highly anticipated Week 1 matchup gets underway. It’s sure to be a mouth-watering contest on Sunday.
