Muhammad Wilkerson On WFAN: Jets Will Be 2-0 After Patriots
NEW YORK (WFAN) — The Jets only have a handful of days to prepare for the New England Patriots, but Muhammad Wilkerson says that’s enough, especially with head coach Rex Ryan back in the fold defensively.
“I think with Rex more now in the defensive meetings and helping out, I think he’s going to put together a great defensive game plan,” Wilkerson told WFAN radio’s Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on Monday.
The defensive end then went old-school Rex, guaranteeing the Jets would beat New England on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium.
“We’re going to go to Foxboro and get this win,” he said.
When asked where the Jets would be after Week 2, Wilkerson replied: “We’re going to be 2-0.”
The Jets pulled off an improbable 18-17 victory over the Buccaneers on Sunday, thanks to the late-game poise of rookie quarterback Geno Smith and a solid game overall by the team’s defensive unit — and some help in the form of a head-scratching Tampa Bay penalty with just seconds left on the clock to put New York in field-goal range.
Wilkerson, who recorded one of the Jets’ three sacks against the Buccaneers, said the defensive line has a chance to be something “special.”
“As long as we play good ball, you know, coming in every day and working hard and getting better, the sky’s the limit with this D-line up front.”
