Cops: Woman Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Sunday were looking for a driver who fatally struck a woman in the Bronx before fleeing Sunday morning.

Dulce Maria Valencia, 27, of the Bronx, was struck and killed just after 5 a.m. at the intersection of Evergreen Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard in Soundview, police said.

When officers arrived, they found the woman unconscious and unresponsive lying in the street. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members and neighbors claimed Valencia and a friend were walking home from a party at a relative's house when Valencia was struck.

The friend was also hospitalized, but it was not clear whether she was also struck or if she was being treated for shock upon seeing her friend injured, neighbors said.

The victim's sister, Minerva Valencia, said her sister came to New York City from Mexico about seven years ago, and made money arranging flowers in her apartment and selling them. She would send some money home to her parents in Mexico, her sister said.

Police said a black sedan traveling westbound on the service road of Bruckner Boulevard hit the woman. It was not clear if the sedan was a livery cab or a private vehicle.
