Group Urges Facebook To Allow For Pet Profiles

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Posting Facebook profiles of pets is just a cute novelty for some people, but for others, it can be an important safety precaution.

As 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported Sunday night, the profiles can sometimes be used to publicize animal rescues, or the work of therapy dogs.

But it is against Facebook rules. A group of women has been trying to get Facebook to amend the regulations, and claimed many of the profiles are disappearing.

"The dog profiles raise the voice for shelters for pets in need, and for humanitarian causes as well," she said.

There is even an online petition drive underway to try to get Facebook to take another look at pet profiles.

Whether Facebook is actively working to delete pet profiles is a matter of dispute, according to Hoax-Slayer.com. But the website pointed out that posting pet profiles technically amounts to a breach of Facebook rules.
