Police Release Sketch Of Suspect In Attempted Rape Of Girl, 10

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Wednesday released a sketch of a suspect who allegedly tried to sexually assault a 10-year-old girl as she headed to school in Queens this week.

The attack happened around 7:15 a.m. Monday on 168th Street between Archer and Douglas avenues in Jamaica, Queens, police said earlier this week.

The girl was on her way from one bus to another on her route to school when she was thrown to the ground by a man she described as being in his 30s, police said. The man attempted to rape the girl, according to police.

The girl kicked the man and he ran off as a vehicle went by, police said.

She then jumped on the school bus and reported the attack at school, police said.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

A sketch of the suspect was released Wednesday evening.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers Web site, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
