One Tank Trips: Cradle Of Aviation Museum

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A visit to Long Island's Cradle Of Aviation Museum offers visitors a hands-on look at many different types of aircraft.

The air and space museum in Garden City was the latest stop in the One Tank Trips series.

"There's over 75 planes and spacecraft that you can up close to and you can see the whole history of the region in terms of everything from flying in balloons in the 1870s to the Apollo program and the space shuttle program," executive director Andrew Parton told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.

There's also the all-digital JetBlue Sky Theater Planetarium, which offers visitors an out-of-this-world experience.

"Five-story domed screen, so it really - you get kind of enveloped in it. It's almost 3-D without the glasses because you really feel like it's surrounding you all the way," said Parton. "We do the interactives where you get to go to a planet, whether it's Saturn or the moon or Mars, you actually feel like you're flying."
