NEW YORK (WLNY) — The 16 day Oktoberfest celebration kicks off on Saturday. To give us a taste of the German tradition is Chad Tibbetts, executive chef at the Stone Street Tavern.

Beer Bratwurst, Apple & Sauerkraut Medley

1 T olive oil
4 Bratwurst cooked in german beer, sliced
1 onion sliced
2 cloves garlic minced
2 cups sauerkraut
1 carrot shredded
2 apples, cored and sliced 1/2 inch
3 cubed red potatoes
1 cup apple cider
fresh thyme
1T sherry vinegar
salt and pepper to taste


Saute onion in oil until caramelized, add garlic, carrot, saute 2 minutes. Add sauerkraut, apple, potatoes, cider, thyme, brats, simmer for 15-20 min (until potatoes are cooked).
