Victim Of Violent Bronx Mugging Says 'I Thought I Was Going To Die'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Bronx man said he thought he was a goner when he was violently attacked and robbed in the lobby of his apartment building.

It happened just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on Intervale Avenue in Longwood, police said.

Police: Man, Woman Sought In Violent Bronx Attack, Robbery

Subryan Banggaroo, 60, was coming home from work when police said a man followed him into the building, placed him in a chokehold and then stabbed him repeatedly as a female accomplice acted as a lookout.

The entire incident was captured on surveillance video.

"I had no idea someone was behind me, it happened so fast," Banggaroo told CBS 2's Weijia Jiang. "He locked me up, I couldn't breathe, I just dropped."

Banggaroo said he was stabbed in the back, chest and hip.

"I thought I was going to die," he said. "I said 'it's over for me, it's over, that's it.'"

The male suspect then stole Banggaroo's cellphone and the pair took off, police said.

Banggaroo was taken to the hospital and is recovering. He said from now on, he'll be more aware of his surroundings.

"I'm very, very angry," he told 1010 WINS' Al Jones. "There's no reason for this. If somebody hurts you like that, an innocent man like me, it's not right."

"You want to look over your back now because you don't know. It could definitely happen to you," neighbor Parris Daniels said.

"That could have been my parents. It's sad," another neighbor told Jiang.

Police did not provide a description of the suspects, but they were also seen together on additional surveillance video.

Banggaroo is pleading for tips to help catch the couple. "If you see something, say something so it won't happen to anyone else."
