Report: Bedbugs Found In Health Department Building In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Bedbugs have infested a New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene office building in Long Island City, Queens, according to a published report.

The bug colonies were found on the 11th floor of the building after multiple complaints of sightings in recent weeks, according to a New York Daily News report. Employees were reportedly notified by e-mail this past Tuesday night.

Sources said bedbugs have been occupying the building for several weeks, the newspaper reported.

The department told the newspaper that bedbugs had been found in one area of a single floor, and inspections and cleaning procedures have been launched to eliminate them.

Employees told the paper they were given a bedbug information pamphlet that is published by the department for the public, and advised to clean their work areas and put their personal items into plastic bags.
