Man, 79, Accused Of Trying To Lure 15-Year-Old Girl On Long Island

GLEN COVE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect wanted in an attempt to abduct a 15-year-old girl on Long Island has been arrested.

Police released a surveillance picture of the white Nissan Frontier the suspect was driving. They said it belonged to Umberto Stanco, 79, of Glen Cove.

Investigators alleged Stanco was the man who approached the girl as she walked home from school on School Street this past Monday.

The girl said she didn't need a ride, but he kept following her, police said.

The suspect's vehicle was caught on surveillance cameras the City of Glen Cove recently installed, police said.

"The surveillance cameras in the downtown area played a major role in bringing a quick arrest to this case," said Glen Cove police Lt. John Nagle. "The downtown cameras were installed through a federal grant at no cost to the city's tax payers. The cameras went online last April and they feed directly into the Glen Cove police Department."

Stanco has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment. He was set to be arraigned Wednesday in Glen Cove Court.
