LONG BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – A city-run day care center in Long Beach has been cited for multiple violations, including the use of corporal punishment.
As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, state officials confirmed that an employee of the Magnolia Day Care Center was fired after striking a child with a shoe.
A total of eight violations were cited in July but have all since been corrected, according to Newsday.
The center serves 27 children and has a staff of 14 workers.
Officials with the state Office of Children and Youth Services said they’re satisfied with the corrective action taken and no fines or suspensions were issued.
The city said the employee who struck the child was immediately fired and all of the workers underwent additional training.
