As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, police said Jiang would buy the power tools at one Nassau Home Depot store then go to another in the county to return both items for a cash refund. Police said he was pocketing the cash from the second power tool he received for free with the fraudulent coupons.

Jiang allegedly carried out the coupon scam since January of 2011, police said.

"We estimated that he stole over $7,000 by doing this scam," Sgt. Richard Harasym said. "Home Depot became suspicious when they saw his name appearing on a lot of returns."

Jiang is charged with grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument. He is due to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Friday, police said.
