New Jersey Police Find Body In Farrington Lake, Believe It's Missing Boater

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police believe they found the body of an elderly boater who went missing in Farrington Lake.

The Home News Tribune reported that around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday boaters spotted an empty boat on the lake at the border of East Brunswick and North Brunswick and reported it to police. Authorities combed the lake for most of the day, and around 4 p.m., divers found a man's body under the bridge that crosses the lake, police said.

"State Police, when they were checking the boat out, they were able to connect that boat with a man in his 80s," State Police Lt. Steven Jones told WCBS 880. "That man was missing and had not been seen, although he was expected to be out on the lake in that boat this morning. We believe that the man who was recovered today is indeed that missing boater."

The man's identity has not been released.

The medical examiner was called to the scene. The cause of death was unknown Wednesday evening.
