Police: Man Throws Piece Of Cement At Long Island Officer's Head

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island police officer is listed in stable condition after authorities said he was struck in the head with a piece of cement.

The incident happened just before midnight Thursday at a McDonald's on Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead.

The officer was ordering food when he noticed a man harassing workers, police said.

The officer escorted the man out of the McDonald's and then went back in to get his food, CBS 2 reported.

When the officer walked back out, police said the suspect tossed a concrete block at the officer, hitting him in the face.

The officer was treated for minor injuries.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Oscar Guerra, was placed under arrest at the scene.

Guerra will be arraigned on charges of second-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief at First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
