Stolen Bread Truck Leads Newark Police On Chase

NEWARK (CBSNewYork) -- Newark police were briefly led on a high-speed chase early Sunday morning in pursuit of a stolen bread truck.

Police told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck that armed bandits stole the truck around 1:30 a.m. at Elm and Union streets. Responding officers then gave chase before the truck collided head-on with a car at Central Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, in front of the parking lot of St. Michael's Medical Center, authorities said. Bread was tossed all over the intersection.

One suspect ran toward a taxi cab, but was nabbed by police. The other suspect ran toward some nearby New Jersey Transit tracks and got away.
