GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – A Long Island woman has filed a federal lawsuit claiming she was sexually harassed by a Nassau County police officer in the back seat of a patrol car.

Jenny Hannigan, who is now 27, said the incident happened in June 2011 after she was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

“He got in the back seat of the car with me, I was handcuffed,” Hannigan said, claiming that she was victimized by the police officer while his female partner looked the other way. “The female officer was driving and we were in the backseat of the car and he was sitting next to me and that’s when this all happened.”

Hannigan is now suing for unspecified damages.

“I think a lot of women suffer this kind of abuse in silence and I’m not one of them,” Hannigan said.

An internal investigation found the assault allegation “undetermined,” but concluded that the accused officer violated policy after sending a text message to Hanningan three days later “asking her how she was doing,” according to the complaint.

Both officers are still on the job.
