3 Long Island Sisters Give Birth Just Weeks Apart

BAY SHORE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- One Long Island family just got a lot bigger.

Sisters Angela Granzino, 38,  Josephine Scalone, 33, and Catherine Ahrens, 35, have always been close, but now they're closer than ever.

Without any planning, the three gave birth at the same hospital within five weeks of each other.

Granzino welcomed her son Francesco on Sept. 9; Josephine gave birth to her daughter Valentina on Sept. 27; Ahrens gave birth to her daughter Madeline on Oct. 11.

"We're over the top, it's unbelievable, this is very surreal to us," Ahrens said at a press event Wednesday at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. "It's crazy to even imagine."

Grandmother Kathleen Menino said she's ready to pitch in.

"I figure what I would do is whoever needs me the most, that's where I would go to, but thank God their husbands are good and they help them," Menino said.

The sisters live within 15 minutes of each other in Suffolk County, so the three cousins will grow up together.
