Judge Rules In Favor Of Citi Bike Docking Station At Lower Manhattan Park

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City's bike-sharing program has won the first legal challenge against it.

A state Supreme Court judge ruled Thursday against a group of neighbors and businesses that sued the city over a Citi Bike docking station in a lower Manhattan park.

Friends of Petrosino Square and others argued the station should've been shifted to an on-street car-parking area across the street. They also said the station disrupted an area dedicated for public art.

But Judge Cynthia Kern disagreed and dismissed their lawsuit. Kern ruled the bike station was appropriate for the park and the decision to place it there was rational after alternative locations proved unrealistic.

Friends of Petrosino Square representatives didn't return messages seeking comment.

Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan called the decision a victory for Citi Bike riders.
