NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Two people have died and three other were injured in an early morning fire at a home in Brooklyn.

The two alarm fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at a house on E. 15th Street in Midwood. It took firefighters about an hour to bring the blaze under control.

“I saw people trying to break the door down, but they couldn’t get anybody out because the hallway was completely encased in flames,” one witness said.

A 91-year-old woman was found dead at the scene, police said. A 63-year-old man was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Three other people inside the house were treated for minor injuries at Maimonides Hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
