Mobile Couch: Central Park's Hidden Treasures

NEW YORK (WLNY) -- Central Park is one of New York's most famous attractions.

Most people know the Great Lawn, Bethesda Fountain and the Central Park Zoo, but WLNY's Alex Denis stopped by the park Wednesday morning to check out some of its hidden treasures.

"It's 843 acres, 6.4-mile loop around it and there's 87 miles of pathways in here," said Luke Ayata of Gotham City Tours. "There's a lot to discover."

Ayata showed Denis some of the parks hidden gems, including the Blockhouse.

The Blockhouse is a small fort in the northern part of the park that was built for the 1812 War.

"It never actually got to see any action," Ayata said. "It was one of four that was built in the northern part of the town to protect ourselves from the war that was going to happen."

Denis also checked out the "Whisper Bench" near 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue.
