Woman Shot Near Kean University In Union, N.J.

UNION, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was shot and wounded Sunday night in Union, N.J.

The shooting happened around 9:40 p.m. on Yvonne Place, at the boundary between Union and Elizabeth, police and witnesses said.

The victim's father spoke to 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten. He said the 27-year-old woman had been to his house to pick up money, and somehow got shot through the window after she left and got in her car.

She was wounded in the arm, and drove away onto campus a few blocks away to get help -- in fear of her life, campus police said.

The suspect ran off and remained on the loose late Sunday.

The victim's father told 1010 WINS he did not know why someone would want to shoot his daughter.

Kean University tweeted that the incident was an "alleged carjacking," but the woman's father said he did not know for sure.

As of the 11 p.m. hour, the car was on campus with a window shot out.

The woman's condition was not immediately available.
