Brooklyn Nets Make Veterans Day Special For Local Service Members

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- People all over the Tri-State area spent the day on Monday paying homage to military personnel.

As CBS 2's Otis Livingston reported, that included a group of high-profile pro athletes.

It was a special day at Fort Hamilton where the Nets held a unique practice that was all about showing respect for the military.

"What we do is nothing compared to what these guys do," Joe Johnson said, "These guys are the true heroes in the world and we appreciate them for that."

Service members were thrilled to see a group of professional athletes running in their backyard.

"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity," Sgt Marc Bartlett said.

The service members at Fort Hamilton were so happy to see Brooklyn's only professional sports team that they presented them with a very special American flag.

The Nets also served military personnel a Thanksgiving meal on a day that was full of smiles for the players and service members.
