Patricia Cornwell Out With New Crime Thriller, "Dust"

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Patricia Cornwell is out with her 21st crime novel, titled "Dust."

WCBS 880's Pat Farnack spoke with the author about her new book and the next one already in the works.

"Dust" again features the beloved character Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a world-renowned forensic pathologist.

"I have her inhabit the same world we do because I always think, 'if she were sitting next to you at a party or a dinner, what would you want to ask her?' And one of the things I would want to ask her, 'what do you think of the types of crimes that are being committed today, is there an answer?'" Cornwell told Farnack.

This time, Scarpetta is tasked with solving a chilling modern-day crime.

"I think it's probably one of the best books I've done and I think people are going to really enjoy the adventure," Cornwell told Farnack.

Cornwell said she is already at work on her 22nd crime novel also featuring Dr. Scarpetta.

"I will keep writing about her until she fires me," Cornwell told Farnack.
