J.R. Smith Defends Brother, Calls Out Brandon Jennings On Twitter

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- J.R. Smith is protective of his younger brother, Chris, and he showed it on Twitter on Wednesday night following the Knicks' victory over the Hawks.

On Wednesday, Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings took a shot at Chris Smith, tweeting, "Wait wait wait JR smith brother is in the NBA but @PoohJeter & @BBROWNLAU isn't. Call me hater but not Rollin!!!"

That tweet has since been deleted.

J.R. took exception to the dig at his brother, and responded on the social-networking site in defense of Chris.

Chris Smith went undrafted in 2012, but was invited to play for the Knicks' summer-league team in Las Vegas. He signed a contract with New York on August 1, 2012, but was waived on October 26 after getting injured in training camp.

After playing in the summer league again in 2013, Chris signed with New York for the second time on September 11.

The younger Smith has been inactive for the Knicks' first seven games. According to ESPN, he is likely to spend most of the season with the Erie BayHawks, the franchise's NBA Development League affiliate.

Coach Mike Woodson admitted last month that being J.R. Smith's brother improved Chris' chance at cracking the Knicks' roster. According to ESPN, some agents are of the opinion that Chris Smith's roster spot was essentially secured when J.R. re-signed with the Knicks on July 11.

J.R. Smith re-tweeted a pair of tweets from his brother -- one from Wednesday night and one from Thursday morning.
