Man Remains Hospitalized After Police-Involved Shooting In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man remains hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by police in a housing project stairwell in the Rockaways yesterday.

Police say the man, 25, was shot after he pointed his gun at officers. The incident happened just after midnight Saturday at a building on Beach Channel Drive in Belle Harbor.

Police responded to 911 call of an assault inside the building.

Four uniformed officers entered the building's lobby and heard screaming coming from a stairwell, police said.

When the officers entered the stairwell and saw an armed man, police said.

They ordered him to drop his weapon, but police said he ran up the stairs and then pointed his gun at the officers.

One officer fired and hit the man in the torso. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition.
