New B44 Select Bus Service Met With Confusion, Frustration By Some Straphangers

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Sunday's debut of the new B44 Select Bus Service in Brooklyn is an attempt to cut down travel time along one of the city's busiest routes, but some riders aren't taking well to the change.

Transit workers were out talking to confused straphangers on Sunday to explain how the new B44 dedicated bus service works, 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported.

It's the borough's first dedicated-lane bus service.

Designed to speed entry onto the buses, riders are required to take the extra step of swiping their MetroCards at special terminals before getting on the bus. This is causing confusion and frustration for some commuters.

"It's an inconvenience," said one straphanger. It's ridiculous."

One bus driver said there have been some positive reactions.

"Some people are confused, but some people like it. It's about 50-50," he said.
