Prosecutor: Long Island Woman’s Death Was An ‘Execution’
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A Long Island man was ordered to be held without bail Monday after allegedly gunning down his girlfriend as she ran from their Ridge apartment.
Jose Rodriguez III, 32, fatally shot Kimberly Solito, 36, twice in the back during a domestic dispute Sunday, police said. When officers responded, Rodriguez barricaded himself inside the home with his two young children, according to police. Then after letting the kids go, he exchanged gunfire with police before eventually surrendering, authorities said. No one was injured.
At Rodriguez’s arraignment Monday at First District Court in Central Islip, Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla called the killing an “execution.”
“She was fleeing,” Biancavilla told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. “It was from close range. He fired twice — shot her once in the back of the head and once in the back. There was no doubt of what his intent was when she was fleeing the scene.”
His tattooed face covered in bruises, Rodriguez, who is charged with second-degree murder and attempted aggravated murder, was led out of the courtroom in shackles. He is due back in court next week.
The suspect’s children have been turned over to their mother.
