Police Fatally Shoot Knife-Wielding Man In Orange County

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man who was wielding a knife was fatally shot by police Tuesday outside a store in Orange County, authorities said.

The victim was chasing another man inside and outside the store in Middletown before two officers opened fire, police told the Times Herald-Record of Middletown. The man died several hours later. No other injuries were reported.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. in front of Sam's Food Store on Academy Avenue.

The newspaper said 11 evidence markers used to mark bullet casings were at the scene.

Authorities are still trying to identify the victim. State police and the county district attorney's office are investigating.

No other details were immediately available.
