NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A man was struck and killed late Friday in a hit-and-run incident in Brooklyn.

Police were called to Flatbush Avenue and East 34th Street, in the Flatlands section of Brooklyn, around 10:30 p.m. Friday. They learned that an unknown black vehicle had been headed south on Flatbush Avenue when it struck Vernon Sylvester Bramble, 47, as he crossed the street.

Bramble was found unconscious and unresponsive at the scene with major head trauma, police said. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward at Beth Israel Medical Center.

The driver sped off after striking Bramble, police said.

As of Saturday afternoon, there had been no arrests and the investigation continued.
