Caught On Video: Deer Storms Through New Jersey Yogurt Shop

HOLMDEL, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An unlikely guest recently barged into a New Jersey yogurt store, and the visit was all caught on surveillance video.

As CBS 2's Tracee Carrasco reported Monday night, the deer stormed through the large front picture window of the Peach Wave frozen yogurt store in Holmdel, N.J. on Oct. 16. Surveillance video has just been released.

"We've got quite a reputation for having fantastic yogurt and apparently it made it to the animal kingdom as well," said owner Alan Prachar.

The deer's dramatic entrance happened just after closing time at 10 p.m. on Oct. 14.

"I was in the office, and my daughter, who runs the store was in the kitchen, and we heard this tremendous crash," Pracher said.

In the video, which Prachar has set to the accompaniment of the Benny Hill theme, Prachar and his daughter, Jennifer, are in shock as the deer runs back behind the cash register and throughout the store.

"We both go out to that swinging kitchen door, only to see a deer standing in the corner there," Prachar said.

In addition to the broken window, the deer slashed up a couch in the seating area causing about $5,000 in damage.

An employee from a nearby store saw the commotion and came by to help. As is seen in the video--he calmly opens the back door and the deer runs away.

While Prachar has never seen deer near his store before, customers believe it came from a wooded area behind a nearby housing development.

After the deer was escorted out, it ran across the parking lot, never to be seen again. And unfortunately – or actually, perhaps fortunately -- it got away without any yogurt.
