NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Thousands of mourners, including world leaders and celebrities, paid tribute to late South African President Nelson Mandela Tuesday.

And while it is not uncommon for world leaders to take photos at such events, a lot of buzz is being generated over one photo in particular: A “selfie.”

President Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt were snapped posing for a selfie during Mandela’s memorial.

The Twitterverse blew up, and #Obamaselfie generated mixed reactions about the photo.

@MaryDolceVita  Tweeted “I’m laughing so hard I’m nearly crying,” while @ktnewbs Tweeted, “Folks, I’ve never been more dissatisfied with a Presidents actions than I am right now. Really?”

Tuesday was the 20th anniversary of the day when Mandela and South Africa’s last apartheid-era president, F.W. de Klerk, received the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to bring peace to their country.

De Klerk, a political rival who became friends with Mandela, was also at the memorial.
