He was stabbed during an argument that apparently started over smoking inside of a Bushwick residence.

"The police officer told him to stop smoking in the house and he got upset and picked up the knife and stabbed him," a neighbor told 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten.

The cop was taken to Kings County Hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Police took a 64-year-old relative of the officer into custody at the scene. Neighbors described the Vietnam veteran as nice, but a little erratic, Baumgarten reported.

Charges were pending.
