One Person Injured When Train, Car Collide In North Jersey

MONTVALE, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say one person suffered minor injuries when a New Jersey Transit train and a car collided in northern New Jersey.

The accident at the Kinderkamack Road crossing in Montvale occurred around 11:10 a.m. Sunday.

An NJ Transit spokesman tells NJ.com that it appears the car's 16-year-old female driver panicked when the gates at the crossing started coming down and she drove onto the tracks. Two passengers got out of the car before it was hit by the westbound Pascack Valley Line train, but the driver did not.

The girl suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital. She was released later Sunday.

None of the 60 passengers on the train or its crew were hurt in the accident.
