Free Tickets Available For De Blasio Inauguration

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - You can get a front row seat at the inauguration of New York City Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio.

The Democrat takes office on Jan. 1 and, as part of his platform of equality, will hand out 1,000 free tickets to the ceremony.

The swearing in will take place in front of City Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at noon.

"We are excited to announce this opportunity for New Yorkers from across the city to attend the Inauguration," said Gabrielle Fialkoff, the event's chair. "In addition, the Mayor-elect will greet the event's attendees in City Hall following the ceremony and Gracie Mansion will be open for anyone and everyone to visit on January 5th. Inauguration 2014 will be one of the most open and accessible events of its kind in New York City's history."

Incoming New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer and Public Advocate Letita James, both Democrats, will also be sworn in at the ceremony in City Hall Plaza.

According to the de Blasio transition website, the tickets will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
